Nangdo, the Island You Can Drive To, and the Hidden Beach Within It
Hi, I'm Sudal. Today I want to tell you about a rather special island in Yeosu. It's Nangdo, an island you can drive straight to without needing a boat. Let me slowly tell you the story of Nangdo Beach, a small beach tucked away on its southern side.
An Island Connected by Five Bridges
Nangdo is said to be one of Yeosu's beautiful islands, and it used to be a place you could only reach by boat. But apparently, as many as five land-connecting bridges were built, linking Jangsu-ri in Hwayang-myeon, Yeosu, with Ucheon-ri in Yeongnam-myeon, Goheung, connecting the island to the mainland. Not just one bridge, but five — hearing that really made me realize just how long and carefully woven the road to Nangdo must be.
Thanks to that, you can now drive straight into Nangdo, from what I've heard. There's no need to match a boat schedule anymore — it's become an island you can head to on a whim, whenever the mood strikes. It sounds like a manageable drive from downtown Yeosu, too, and the sea views unfolding as you cross each bridge one by one must feel like a scene from the trip all on their own.
A beach you can only reach after crossing five bridges — the road there is already a journey of its own.

A Little-Known Beach with Surprisingly Clear Water
Nangdo Beach is said to be a small beach on the southern side of Nangdo. Since it isn't very large, it hasn't become widely known yet, but it's known for its shallow water and clear sea. That's exactly what makes it a great spot for swimming, from what I've heard. If you've mainly visited the bigger beaches so far, it might be worth keeping a quiet, clear beach like this one in mind too.
Above all, Nangdo Beach is said to be well known for sea fishing. Especially in summer, many tourists and anglers are said to visit in search of sea bass in season. You can go for a swim and cast a line, both in the same small beach — it seems like you get to enjoy two kinds of pleasure in one place.
The scenery behind the beach is worth a look too.
A Lawn Behind the Sand, and Sunsets Over Palyeongsan
Behind the sandy shore, a grassy lawn is said to spread out. It sounds like a good spot to pitch a tent for a light car-camping trip or simply enjoy an outing. Just sitting on the grass with the sea breeze in your face sounds like it could make for a relaxed day on its own.
Across the water, you can see Mt. Palyeongsan in Goheung, from what I've heard. That's part of why the scenery here is said to be so good, and in the evening, you can apparently take in a beautiful sunset as well. It sounds like a hidden spot worth recommending to anyone who wants a quiet place to rest. On top of that, pets are said to be welcome here too, so it should be an easy place to visit for anyone traveling with a dog.

SOODAL's Tip · Since tide conditions and bridge traffic can vary depending on the season, it's a good idea to double-check before you head out.
