Hi, I'm Sudal. Today I've brought a story about Dolsan Park, the park you meet right after crossing Dolsan Bridge. It's the first thing you run into the moment you cross the bridge from downtown Yeosu onto Dolsan Island, so it's a spot I stop by fairly often myself. This park has a drama set inside it, and apparently even a time capsule that won't be opened for another hundred years — so today let's take that story step by step.
An 87,000-Pyeong Site, Built in 1987
Dolsan Park is the park you meet right as you cross Dolsan Bridge and enter Dolsan Island, I've heard. It was built in 1987 on a spacious site of about 87,000 pyeong, so it's already been standing here for quite a while. The fact that such a wide park unfolds right after crossing just one bridge was quietly surprising to me when I first found out.
The Set from the Drama 'Seontaek' Is Still Here, Now a Traditional Tea House
Inside the park, there's a set built for the SBS morning drama 'Seontaek,' aired in 2004, and I've heard many tourists come to see it. Part of the set has been remodeled into a traditional tea house, so you can now sit there and have a cup of tea while looking out at Dolsan Bridge. The view of sitting with the bridge right in front of you while sipping tea is said to be beautiful, so if you have a bit of time, stopping to rest there sounds like a good idea.
There are viewpoints scattered around the park, where you can watch the sun set right over Dolsan Bridge, and once night falls, the bridge lit up. I've heard you can also take in the night view of the marine park spanning Jungang-dong and Jonghwa-dong in Yeosu, along with the night view of Jangundo Island, all in one glance — so heading up around sunset and staying through to the night view sounds like a solid course.
Just crossing one bridge, and I could see everything from the sunset to the stars coming out.

There's something special buried in the central part of the park. Various records related to the 1994 merger of Yeosu, Yeocheon, and Yeocheon-gun — known as Samyeo Tonghap — are said to be kept inside a time capsule there. This time capsule is scheduled to be opened 100 years later, on April 1, 2098, so it seems unlikely that any of us standing here now, or even our children or grandchildren, will get to see it opened in person. Still, thinking that I'm standing on ground holding a story that won't unfold for another hundred years gives me a strangely distant, far-off feeling.
SOODAL's Tip · Since the park doesn't have much shade in places, please bring water if you're visiting in summer, and if you're heading up for the sunset or night view, bringing a flashlight or wearing bright clothing is recommended for safety on the way down.
